When you're going to build kitchen or have your kitchen renovated, you shouldn't entrust it to anybody other than a professional Kitchen Company. It should be your goal to make sure that you only get the best companies when it comes to improvements and designs of kitchens.

Kitchens are integral areas of homes. They provide a perfect venue for moms to prepare the dishes for her family. Dads, on the other hand, can find excellent bonding moments with their wives. Sons and daughters can grow up
earning the values of proper health and cooking just by staying in kitchens.

That's why when you're going to build one or have your kitchen renovated, you shouldn't entrust it to anybody else. It should be your goal to make sure that you only get the best companies when it comes to improvements and designs of kitchens.

Criteria in Looking for a Good Kitchen Company

It's important for you to scout in your area or over the World Wide Web for the right company who can come up with the kind of kitchen that you have in mind. But more than their ability to produce well-thought-out designs, you should also watch out for the following qualifications:

1. Ensure that the kitchen company has been around for a considerable number of time. The reason for this is you're after its track record. When a company has been designing and renovating kitchens for some time, you can already ask for references from them. You can also take a look at their portfolios. Most likely, you can already gauge if they can perform the job that you have in mind or if you need to look for somebody else.

2. Look for references. A kitchen Company that can truly perform installation of kitchens will always have good references that you may contact. This way, you can at least confirm the claims of the company. You don't have to see their previous clients first hand. You may call them using the number provided by the installation or kitchen design company. Don't forget to ask if they are satisfied with the work done. You can even request them to rate your potential Kitchen Company. The point here is if you're getting a lot of negative feedbacks, then there's a huge possibility that you will also be disappointed of the result if you're going to continue choosing them.

3. Look for a license. The contractor that you've selected should be licensed to operate in your state. Otherwise, if you will encounter some problems that may require you to seek the help of the government, you may not be provided with the right remedy simply because the company isn't legal in the first place. You can also verify their status in the contractors' board, as well as the license board.

4. Make sure that the contractors are willing to work with you every step of the way. Because it's your kitchen, your opinion must matter. Hence, you need to go for companies that are putting your preference over theirs when it comes to design and installation. You must be consulted with regards to designs they have for the kitchens.

Indeed, the kind of Kitchen Company you pick can either make or break the concept you have for your kitchen. Follow these tips and you will never go wrong.

One of the first extensions that people consider making to their home is a conservatory &' generally this is by far the cheapest and simplest extension that is well known to add value to your property. It is relatively easy to get planning permission and there are a lot of choices and styles available within your local area to choose from.

The sad fact is that most people do not use their conservatories. Why is this? Well very simply because of the high temperatures these glass rooms create. In the winter a conservatory is oft
n the coldest room of the house &' being mainly a summer room you would think that as the warmer weather increased, a conservatory owner would use their conservatories more and more. However as the weather warms the heat in your conservatory multiplies into almost unbearable levels very quickly.

Most people who have invested in this type of extension quickly realise that they need some protection from the heat and glare and the obvious solution is conservatory blinds.

Conservatory blinds come in many styles and colours though they keep away the glare and offer a degree of shade they do not do a great job of keeping the heat out. The heat is still created as the sun hits the glass.

A perfect solution to heat reduction is to use external conservatory blinds. Modern fabric technology has allowed for a special type of fabric that is designed to reflect up to 95% of the suns heat away before it hits the glass, still allowing light to pass through though taking away the glare.

These exterior conservatory blinds offer huge heat reductions in the conservatory bringing the temperatures down to standard room temperature &' even on the hottest of summer days.

Being these conservatory blinds are mounted externally an electric motor powers the blind on opening and closing. This allows simple temperature control as, at the press of a button, you can open, partly open or close the blind allowing more or less sunlight to hit the glass.

When not in use the exterior conservatory blinds retract back into a small housing that is hardly noticeable. In its cassette it can remain protected from adverse weather elements and kept looking as smart as it did on day one!

These conservatory blinds are often not cheap, certainly if you are looking at quality, though the benefits of a room you can use often outweighs the cost implications.

Legends and mythology form the backdrop to cultures, literature and traditions in the world today and have been a popular theme in tapestry design. Mythology may appear as an illustration of the story itself or as a metaphorical projection as part of a painting and message behind a picture. These stories have stood the test of time and retain their appeal today.

The Drama of the Greek Legends

Of all the mythological legends transposed to tapestry design the Greek ones are the most prominent and feature in a variety
f styles and settings, immortalised in wall hangings. Some have been reproduced from original artistic paintings whilst others have been formed as an original tapestry design. The legend of Diana the Huntress is one of the more prominent figures in Greek mythology and was depicted in an eighteenth century series by the Gobelins Factory titled Portiere des Dieux or the Gateway to the Gods. Each panel represented the four seasons with Diana appearing resplendent amongst nature.

Pomona and Vertumnus is another Greek legend captured in a tapestry series to represent the many disguises of Vertumnus, the god of changing seasons as he wooed Pomona. The original Brussels tapestry was an exquisite design series by Jan Cornelisz with a magnificently detailed garden and elaborate greenery. Originally from Ovid's Metamorphoses this striking myth is captured in the beauty of the needlecraft and workmanship and transposed through tapestry.

Just as frescoes of gods appeared in ancient temples so the elaborate and detailed tapestries depicting the classical mythology of Greece and Rome emerged on castle and palace walls and in homes of wealthy noblemen. The enduring nature of legend has made this form of tapestry design a classical and tasteful form of furnishing. The Triumph of Apollo was designed by Bernard van Orly, a Flemish painter and created into a series of tapestries themed with the god of music and poetry. Developed in a classical style and with the muses surrounding Apollo this is a piece designed for the grand palaces of Europe and exudes joy and harmony through the depth of colour and style of the tapestry hanging. Elaborate decoration in the design gives an air of another more heavenly world, the world of legend and myth and the characters themselves appear to be in another dreamlike environment.

Legendary Creatures and Magical Beasts

Mythological creatures have been a popular feature of tapestries with the Unicorn being one of the more prominent. Medieval tapestries such as the Lady and the Unicorn have used this legendary creature to create a series of panels depicting the senses. Simple and classical designs but giving a mysterious edge, even as to the origin of this work add a cryptic touch to the myth behind this famous tapestry, almost leaving the observer guessing the message behind each scene. The Unicorn series focuses on the legend of purity surrounding the unicorn and the imagery that unicorns were once thought to be a representation of Christ. This popular figure in medieval times continues to be appreciated in modern tapestry and still exudes an air of mystery to this day.

Arthurian legend

Central to British heritage was the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. This captivating story proved popular in tapestry and was immortalised in the Holy Grail Series by William Morris. Entwined with angels, closed doors and an air of mystery the Holy Grail continues to capture the imagination of those who seek it. The knights and their quest in finding this mysterious and elusive piece is beautifully captured in exquisite detail and in the expressions of some of the characters depicted, and ensures Arthurian tales continue to thrill with the legend surrounding the Grail. It is a rich combination of valour, chivalry and a mysterious legend that remains unsolved to this day.

The Timeless Appeal of Mythology

Legends and Mythologies are as old as time itself and continue to retain their popularity. Pyramus and Thisbe found themselves immortalised in the Shakespearean tragedy Rome and Juliet, and also in a Parisian tapestry creation in the Gobelin style. These are the classical tales that pass from generation to generation and continue to enchant with mystery and imagery. Tapestries have been designed for many years with mythological themes and stories sewn into the fabric, bursting with joy and captivating admirers. From the Ancient Gods of Greece to Unicorns and legends the very nature of mythology will ensure the themes and characters continue to feature in the decorative arts.

You don't think you have a green thumb? That's OK--you don't really need one!Just a little knowledge and info to get youstarted!!

Those of us who live in rural areas have a decided advantage over city and apartmentdwellers. We can nearly always find roomfor a vegetable garden even if it's a smallone!

But even if you don't have an acre or two ofland to play with, don't despair! You can stillsupple
ent your grocery budget with freshveggies grown in a container garden--even ifthe only space you have is on your patio!

Tomatoes are about the easiest vegetablesto grow. They come in all sizes: from bite-sizecherry tomatoes to great big beefsteaktomatoes. And tastewise, store-bought tomatoes just can't compare to vine-ripened!

The first step to starting a container garden isto locate your container. You can use almostanything. A half-barrel, the kind you see forsale at garden centers, works great. You mayhave plastic buckets already on hand and thesecan work, too.

If you use buckets, usually one plant to eachbucket is enough. And keep in mind, one plant canproduce a lot of tomatoes!

Just put a layer of rocks in the bottom of your chosen container for drainage. Then fill withquality potting soil about 2/3 thirds of the wayfull.

Tomatoes are best grown from seedlings. Mostgarden centers, discount stores, and even somegrocery stores have these in stock in the spring.

Remove the plant from the plastic pot it comes inby squeezing the bottom of the pot to loosen thesoil and gently lift it from the pot. Carefully loosen the roots a little as sometimes they tendto be a little root-bound in the small pots.

Dig a hole a little bigger than your plant ball andjust set your tomato into the hole right up to theleaves and fill all around with more potting soil.

Of course, you must water the plants to make themgrow! Your tomato plants will respond well to regularfeeding. Apply a liquid fertilizer once a week.

Once your plants are larger, you may need to stakethem; however, if you are growing the "bush" variety, they won't need to be staked.

Once your plants are bearing, you may find yourselfwith a surplus. Whole tomatoes can be frozen for uselater on in soups and casseroles. Just wash and putin sealed plastic bags and place in freezer. When you're ready to use them, let them thaw partway so the skin can come off and they're ready to go in thesoup pot!

If you prefer to freeze your tomatoes already chopped, just dip each tomato in boiling water for about 10seconds. Then the peel will pull right off. Chop thetomato, put in bags and freeze.

Here's a good vegetable soup recipe for using frozentomatoes.

Combine 1 1/2 cups frozen chopped tomatoes 1 can new potatoes, drained and chopped 1 can sliced carrots, drained 1 large can tomato sauce 1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning 1 3/4 cups beef broth

Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes, to let flavors mingle.Add salt and pepper to taste.

No one enjoys scrubbing his or her bathroom to clean it. Not only is keeping everything clean and mold free in the bathroom a monumental task in and of itself, it is also confusing! Every day there seems to be a new product that will do a more thorough job than the products you currently have. It promises to kill a higher percentage of bacteria and keep your bathroom surfaces cleaner for longer so you have to clean less often. There is no need to throw out the products you currently have, however; you can make anything work.

When you
eed to tackle your vanity, toilet, and bathtub every week (sometimes more often if it sees heavy family use), you need to know how to do it in the most time efficient manner. Fortunately, most bathroom surfaces such as tile and porcelain are extremely easy to clean. However, since the bathroom is often a wet, warm place, bacteria can grow easily. Just make sure you take these preventative measures so that you do not have a mold crisis on your hands!

Your single sink or double sink vanity countertop is smudged with make-up, sprayed with hairspray, and smeared with toothpaste over the course of the week. Most vanity counter tops are made from marble or plastic laminate. Do not use abrasive cleaners or steel wool to clean the marble; instead use a soft cloth or sponge. You can use something slightly more abrasive, such as a two-side sponge, for the plastic laminate. Use the rougher side to clear dirt and stains and finish with the smooth side.

Once you are finished cleaning your bathroom vanity, you can move onto the bathtub and the shower. If your bathtub is prone to mold, try to spray it with a mold inhibitor. Scrub down your tub and shower stalls at least once a week with a more powerful cleanser than you would use on your vanity countertops. Use gloves and a scrub brush to protect your hands from the cleaners. Rinse the surfaces down with clear water when you are finished.

The toilet is the last step. Always wear gloves and you use a long handled brush. There are several ways to clean your toilet but one of the easiest ways is to use 1/2 cup of chlorine bleach. Pour in the bowl; let it stand for 10-15 minutes, then scrub. Flush when you are done!

Greenhouse heating issues can be more complicated depending on where you place the greenhouse.

You will be able to figure out appropriate greenhouse heating no matter where you build the greenhouse, but thinking about heating the greenhouse before you build or even order it will make it easier.

Consider your climate. If you live in an area that is particularly cold or extremely hot most of the year it will have an effect on greenhouse heating. In a hotter climate you will not have to heat your greenhouse as muc
. You will have greater greenhouse heating requirements in if you live in a climate that is cold and has a long winter season. Additionally, if you live in an area that often has heavy cloud cover, you will not be able to rely on the sun from greenhouse heating during the daylight hours.

If your greenhouse will be built with a lot of sunlight exposure you may not need to do as much with heating but you will still need to keep the greenhouse heating maintained at the same level if you want the plants to thrive.

Maybe the only area you have to fit a greenhouse is in an area that will face the north and not receive much direct sunlight. You will need to take this into consideration when planning your greenhouse heating equipment.

Remember that trees and tall buildings will also figure into the greenhouse heating equation. If trees or tall structures block the sun for part of the day it can make a difference in greenhouse heating.

It does depend on where you build your greenhouse when it comes to greenhouse heating needs. Some factors you will have little control over, but if you can do anything to improve your greenhouse heating situation, it can save you money down the road.

Could your home do with a little more garden landscaping? Probably so, and that is a good thing. In fact you should be very excited about it because there is nothing more fun than garden landscaping, it will get your imagination working overtime and you will have a ball planting and rearranging your plants and flowers.

By layering your garden landscaping beds you will be able to add a whole other level of beauty to your landscaping design. Your yard is the first thing that people will see when they come to your house and giving a
grand tour that includes a fabulous garden is always fun and exciting. You will be the talk of the neighborhood, and for all the right reasons this time, when you do some really good garden landscaping.

Layering your garden landscaping design is easy to do. You need to know the flowers that you are going to plant first however. The choices that you make as far as the flowers and other plants will affect just how your garden landscaping is laid out. For example you do not want to have the taller plants in front of the shorter ones. This is obvious but you should still make a rough sketch of where you want things laud out for your garden landscaping before you begin. This will help you to keep thins as simple as possible. Your garden landscaping will go a lot faster this way and you will run into fewer problems as you go.

When layering you should have about three layers. Your back row should face north, if it can, and the back row should have the tallest plants and as the rows descend so should the heights of the plants and flowers. The trick of this kind of garden landscaping is that oftentimes the plants we buy are baby plants. So you will need to talk to those working at your local gardening store about how large the plants will grow to be. This is key to successful garden landscaping. If the front or middle row of your garden landscaping design is going to grow much higher than the last row, then you will have to do some rearranging.

The layering affect of your garden landscaping design will add depth and make your garden much more interesting to look at. This is what will make your garden landscaping a success.

1. Storage furniture not just for storage alone

Crafters around the planet seem not to give much importance to the looks of the storage furniture that they choose. The fact is that, like any other kind of furniture, these storage systems could be used for room decoration. Any experienced interior designer will insist on buying good looking storage furniture as a part of cost-effective interior design. Selecting craft storage furniture based the interior design parameters needs several factors to be considered. First of all the color of the craft storage that you choose should blend with the color of the room. As the craft storage systems that are available today come in all colors, selecting the one that suits your room color wont be a big deal at all.

2. Choosing the material

You will be well aware that the craft storage systems are made of different materials. There are Scrapbooking Storage systems made of wood, plastic and even cloths. Craft storage systems made of wood will be the best options when it comes to adding some beautiful furniture to your room along with a great storage solution. If like me you are recovering from Christmas with the outlaws, the credit crunch, and the fact that your kids reports are all underwater (below c level) what could be more therapeutic than planning things for next year in the coming year.

If you're a real couch potato just looking out of the window can give you that inspiration for next season. Start with your garden structure. Is it lush, berried and scrummy, or can you see the neighbours washing line? No bare fences please, we want to see variegated hollies, Sarcococca and Helle
ores complementing the climbing winter clematis Almandii for foliage and flower. That irritating neighbours window can be hidden with an evergreen tree such Quercus ilex (evergreen oak) or softened with the Himalayan Birch Betula jacqmontii.

If you are lucky enough to have a house full of kids, think out of the box about what they want to keep them interested outside. A swing or a slide would be the predictable easy option, while a living woven willow structure becomes Gollom's cave, a crater on the moon and somewhere to get away from Mum and Dad. Try Salix vitellina easily woven into a den, crocodile or animal of your choice.

Grow your own is all the rage, and it's fun to sit down on mass and design your own vegetable garden. Spuds are easy, and if you have sandy soil, root vegetables are a must. Be trendy, experiment with the huge selection of Mediterranean vegetables that come to your table fresh colourful and within ten yards of your back door.

It seems an awful long time off but lose yourself in your colour schemes. Think chocolate with Huchera 'Chocolate Ruffles' while the wonderfully fiery Dahlia 'Bishop of Llandaff' burns brightly alongside the ever so hot Crocosmia masoniorum. And if that doesn't warm you up go back to the mulled wine! A prosperous New Year from Tony Richards.

Hints and tips on choosing a fence for security and decoration

The fence is one of the first things you notice about a house or any other building. It defines the boundary and states where the property starts. And there are now a plethora of choices when it comes to fencing, and several considerations to take into account. The main three things to think about are the security aspect of the fence, the decorative aspect, and the type of materials for the fence and the amount of maintenance that will need to be done over the ag
of the fence. This article will look at these points and what needs to be borne in mind when buying a fence.

The security aspect is among the most important for many homeowners. Along with security comes privacy and the two almost go hand in hand. One of the most secure types of fence is the wood paneled fence. This can be set in steel or aluminum fence posts for stability and strength, while the wood panels project a very secure face to the world as well as giving a high amount of privacy. If security is a concern but privacy is not, then one option worth consideration is the metal rail fence. If built high enough this gives optimum security, but the open style allows a view from outside the property, and vice versa.

The choice of fencing materials will very much depend on the overall look one is trying to achieve for the garden. If a natural look is preferred, the wood is an obvious choice, though in itself that can offer a wide range of materials. Cedar is a popular choice, especially red cedar which can weather to a silver color, though bamboo is now a common sight in many gardens. For simple privacy fencing within a garden, many people are now opting for rustic fences made of brushwood and rolled bamboo. The various materials that can be used for fencing is covered in more depth at http://www.fencinggarden.com

Maintenance is an important factor, especially if the garden is large and there are several hundred yards of fencing to be kept in shape. If you don't mind maintenance and you want natural materials, wood is a perfect choice, though be prepared to put the brush and creosote tin to work every year or so. If maintenance is not your thing, then one of the best choices is vinyl. It can mimic wood or brick, and needs practically no upkeep.

As you can see, there are several things to be taken into consideration when choosing a fencing style and material. How it looks is important, but the level of security is paramount for many people. Before choosing a fence make sure you explore all the options so that you achieve the correct balance of looks, security, and level of required maintenance.

spring plants. Even the crops that enjoy the heat, such as tomatoes, sweet potatoes, okra, and peppers, will produce until frosts hit, which can be pretty late in the year in southern areas. However, there are some plants that will quit towards the end of summer like snap-beans, summer squash, and cucumbers. If these vegetables are planted around the middle of the summer they can be harvested until the first frosts as well. Hardy, tough vegetables will grow until the temperature is as low as 20 degrees, but those that aren't as strong will only be able to grow through light frosts. Remember that if you have root and tuber plants and the tops are killed by a freeze the edible part can be saved if a large amount of mulch is used. When fall gardening, make sure and pick the vegetables with the shortest growing season so they can be full grown and harvested before the frost arrives. Most seed packages will be labeled "early season", or you can find the seeds boasting the fewest days to maturity. You may want to go after your seeds for fall gardening in spring or early summer; they are usually not kept in stock towards the end of summer. If they are stored in a cool and dry location they will keep until you are ready to plant. In order to know exactly when the best time to start fall gardening, you must know about when the first hard frost will hit your area. One of the best ways to tell this is by a Farmer's Almanac. They will give you exact dates and are rarely wrong. You will also need to know exactly how long it is going to take your plants to mature. To get your soil ready for fall gardening you must first remove any leftover spring/summer crops and weeds. Crops leftover from the last season can end up spreading bacteria and disease if left in the garden. Spread a couple of inches of compost or mulch over the garden area to increase the nutrients, however, if spring plants were fertilized heavily it may not need much, if any. Till the top layer of soil, wet it down, and let it set for about 12-24 hours. Once this has been done, you are ready to start planting. Many gardeners will run from fall gardening so they don't have to deal with frosts, but if tough, sturdy vegetables are planted they can withstand a few frosts and give you some wonderful tasting produce. Fall gardening gives you the chance to enjoy your vegetable garden for at least a little bit more time.

March 9th

Many trees and plants, including Japanese maple trees are susceptible to frost damage, especially early in the season when leaves are tender and new.

I am writing this article on Japanese maple trees and frost damage on March 9th. Today the high temperature here in central Virginia is a balmy 78 degrees Fahrenheit! And yet literally a week ago it was snowing with a record daytime low of only 10F.

Yes it's late Winter/early Spring and this is the sort of crazy daily temperature swings you can eas
ly experience. Needless to say the sap is rising in our plants and buds are visibly swelling on our Japanese maple trees. At this rate, even if temperatures drop to the usuaal norm in the 50sF it's only a matter of days until the leaves of some of the early maples start to emerge.

Examples of early cultivars of Japanese maple trees are:

As welcome as these harbingers of Spring are to see in our gardens there's a risk we run and a potential price we pay for this early show.

It doesn't take much for old man winter to reassert himself one last time (or two) and plunge us back into night-time frosts.

I have some pictures of trees looking nice with ice formed on the Japanese maple tree branches, but the result is often catastrophic for the plant.

You might be fortunate to have a slow thaw and the tender leaves may just survive, but you can't be sure. If you find you have blackened, dry and crispy looking remnants of leaves you've got frost damage.

Sadly the tree may not survive this hit. The Spring surge of stored energy went into opening the buds and unfurling the leaves. Now the tree relies on photosynthesis to feed itself. Without these first leaves, there may not be enough unopened buds left or energy stored to start growth off a second time around.

If you find the branches and even the tree trunk are brown you may have lost the tree. using your fingernail gently scrape the bark on the branches and trunk. If you see green, live looking wood you may still be ok. But if all you see is brown dead wood, that's a bad sign.

Here are two things to do:

1. Watch the local weather forecasts until you reach your area's time when you can be fairly sure you will stay frost free. Until then, be alert and ready to protect your Japanese maple trees. At the garden center you can get a woven or spun fleece-like blanket to drape over your trees. You can try to protect like the Florida
citrus growers do by spraying with water and hope this takes up some of the cold. These are not guaranteed to work, but you'll be better off than risking doing nothing.

2. If you feel like your tree still has a chance of hanging on, you can spray with a "tonic". I like to use a proprietary super-concentrated "reviver". You can find details at:

Tree Reviver

If all else fails and you do lose the tree, we'd love to hunt around the nursery and find a great replacement for you.

Happy gardening online and in dirt

Tools & Material: Trowel, Joint Compound, Sand Paper, Peel-And-Stick Repair Patch, Primer, Touchup Paint, Paint Brush

Small holes caused by doorknobs are the most common and easiest to fix. Any other holes within a radius of 6 inches can be classified in this category as well. Begin by wiping the area clean of debris and covering the hole with a peel-and-stick repair patch found at any local hardware store. With your trowel apply a thin layer of compound directly over the patch. Smooth i
out as best as you can over the patch and onto the wall until the patch is completely covered. Allow the compound three to four hours to dry. Once dry, sand smooth and apply a quick coat of primer. After the primer is dry you can finish up by applying a thick coat of touchup paint and feathering it out to blend.

The various types of greenhouses available choose from. Find information on greenhouse kits, garden greenhouses, greenhouses for sale, solar greenhouses, portable greenhouses, lean to greenhouses and more

There used to be a time when installing and using a greenhouse was hard work, and something usually only to be attempted by the professional gardeners or at the very least by a very keen amateur. Greenhouses used to be made almost exclusively out of wood, and not were they difficult to build, but also took a fair bit of mai
tenance as well as being difficult to use because windows were difficult to open and the whole thing was difficult to heat. Thankfully, modern technology has made the whole job much easier, and now almost anyone can make use of a greenhouse to grow plants in off season, and make a good job of it into the bargain.

The main improvement has come from the use of modern materials such as plastic, which are extremely durable and make maintenance a breeze. Gone are the days when wood panels and frames would need to be constantly painted and varnished to keep the attack of the weather at bay. PVC can stand up to most weather conditions and is practically maintenance free, and needs only to be kept clean, an easy job. On top of this plastic also makes putting up the greenhouse in the first place a much easier job than in the old days. It is still a good idea to have a professional build it for you, especially if you don't have much time, but many greenhouses are now available in kit form, which anyone with a bit of DIY knowledge can erect in a matter of hours, especially if the greenhouse is a small one.

But the area where modern materials have really made a difference is in the functioning of the greenhouse itself. Since modern materials make the structure fairly airtight, heating is much easier, which means that your plants are much more likely to thrive. The covering has also become much more effective, with modern panels being able to absorb far more of the heat from the sun than the old glass windows did. All this makes gardening in a greenhouse much easier than it was previously.

The range of sizes is also now much wider, with small greenhouses available that can be used for growing a small selection of plants or even a small selection of vegetables such as tomatoes. For the amateur gardener who doesn't want to erect a large structure, either because it isn't needed or due to space constraints, these can be an ideal choice. In short, if you like to try you hand at growing plants but have always thought a greenhouse was a major commitment, think again. No matter your level of experience or space availability, modern materials have made using and maintaining a greenhouse something that almost anyone can do.

There are many ways in which you can install hardwood flooring, and the method you choose will depend on the type of flooring you are installing. Solid hardwood typically comes in the form of parquet flooring, strips, or planks. Laminate wood flooring on the other hand typically requires other methods for installation.

When getting ready to install hardwood flooring, it's important to remember that the appropriate method for installing hardwood flooring will depend on the type of flooring you are about to install. Soli
hardwood can be purchased as either planks, strips, or parquet. An alternative to solid hardwood is laminate flooring which is usually installed differently than hardwood.

Regardless of whether your choose laminate or hardwood for your flooring needs you should be able to easily locate directions and instructions on the package. Laminate floors are relatively easy to install according to the instructions. Solid hardwood floors, on the other hand, need the opportunity to become acclimated to the humidity before being installed so the flooring must be removed from the package before it is installed. Laminate flooring should remain in the packaging until you are ready to install.

With some careful planning, your flooring installation endeavors should be successful. Make sure to pay attention to the details since it's the little things that can make all the difference. The floor surface that you are installing hardwood or laminate on must be carefully cleaned to remove any dirt or dust. At a minimum the foundation should be swept and vacuumed.

It's also very important to make sure you correctly measure the area that requires new flooring to determine how much new flooring is required. To prevent issues it's always best to measure three times to make sure your numbers are right. The staff at your local hardware store can help you to determine how much flooring you need to purchase if you provide them with the measurements of the area you will be working on. By doing this you can avoid purchasing too much or too little flooring.

Glueless laminate flooring is typically very easy to install, which makes it a popular choice. This type of flooring doesn't require glue or nails and has a kind of tongue and groove design which allows the pieces to pop into place.

Before installation your new flooring, check out how the light enters the room. The planks should be installed towards your hallway lighting and should always be installed lengthwise.

Laminate flooring instructions provide all the information you'll need including how to lay the first plank against the wall and how spacers should be placed if they are required. For hardwood installation, always start in a corner using a full plank at the start of the first row. A spacer should also be used to keep a half inch gap between the plank and the wall.

With all of these things to remember, the most important is to follow the instructions provided with the flooring materials you purchase. Each type of flooring will have different requirements and each manufacturer may have slightly different advice. The instructions they provide are meant to make your installation the easiest it can be.

The Dish Network satellite dish is only about 2 feet in diameter. Very much a space saver when it comes to mounting the satellite dish on a wall, fence or garage!

Since the satellite dish is small, it is also light and not bulky in size, this also makes it easier to mount.

Satellite dishes have two antennae's which are pointing back to the dish and shooting off into the blue sky.

These 2 receiver antennas help bring in a signal to your dish and display the signals they receive on your television.

If you purcha
e a satellite dish brand new, you won't have to worry about mounting it, because your local satellite installation crew will do all the installing for you. They don't want you trying to climb up a 10 foot ladder to mount their dish, so they'll do it for you, which is usually free anyways.

But if you do have to mount your dish yourself, make sure you have the Dish Network satellite pointing directly into the sky away from trees, little children and buildings.

By following this step, you will be able to receive the most premium possible signal from your satellite dish. This will also provide quality viewing on your television screen!

If you wish to not mount the dish on your home you can also go another route. Most satellite dish providers have tripod stands for you. This is a great alternative if your apartment or condo complex doesn't allow you to nail anything to their exterior walls.

One downfall with the tripod is it can be very finicky. Make sure you put the tripod and satellite dish in an area away from people and dogs or any animal of either species for that matter.

I have had some problems with guests bumping and every so gently tapping the tripod and the TV goes blank..."Looking for signal" is what you'll see on your television. Even the slightest nudge could result in you jumping out of bed in your pajamas and slightly tapping the satellite dish until the signal is received again.

What's funny about that is the slightest tap can effect the signal its receiving, but rain, snow nor wind won't usually effect the signal...go figure?

Landscaping your garden

เขียนโดย admin | 05:45

Landscaping your garden allows you to use your imagination and creativity as well as it can be very relaxing and fulfilling once you see the result of your work.

But, despite of this, this task involves specific knowledge and several techniques which you should be aware of in order to succeed and create an appealing design.

Before you start landscaping your garden, you must have a clear plan and idea of what you will do. In order to plan your landscape, you should first consider several factors, such as if you have
hildren, if you have pets, if you plan on placing a pool, and what you wish to grow. A garden landscape will imply different requirements depending on what you will grow in it: flowers, plants, trees, or vegetables.

Also, before planning your garden design, try to have a clear idea on what your budget for it is, and how much available time you have to work on it. Once you have all these factors clear, you should proceed to measure the space in which you will work and if possible make a drawing of it as accurately as possible.

There are many different elements you can consider when landscaping your garden. Depending on the different factors that affect your specific case, you should consider, for example, lawn, an herb garden, a children's play area, shade trees, a garden seat, a pond, a vegetable garden, flowers, and statues or other ornaments.

Always keep in mind the space and dimensions of your garden. Try to avoid adding too many elements to the garden, respect its dimensions. A garden which has so many elements that walking around and circulating is difficult is not welcoming or attractive. If your garden is very small, then plan it as simple as possible, trying to keep enough free space for circulating easily in it. On the other hand, if your garden is very big, try to divide it in different areas and work each one of them separately, while keeping in mind a harmonious result when the work is completed and the garden is seen as a whole.

Los Angeles allows a 7600 square foot home on a 5000 square foot lot. This isn't fuzzy math, and the city is not saying you should re-position your neighbor's fence in the middle of the night, gaining a 2600 foot advantage for your new breakfast nook.

Is there a perpetual shadow hovering over your house? Do you feel as though you live in a Batman movie? You may be the victim of a neighboring McMansion or a new development trend called mansionization, the housing industry's equivalent to bigger portions and fast food
These mansionizers—who are frequently "spec" builders--buy small or dilapidated homes, raze them and erect massive structures, often resembling sterile apartment buildings. Except for meager set-backs, they swallow up the entire lot, dwarf their Liliputian neighbors and invade the privacy of adjacent yards with their second-story windows. It's sort of like jamming five hotels onto "Baltic Avenue" and calling them a home. There simply isn't enough space without impacting the "Community Chest" and monopolizing the other players in the game. Most U.S. building codes are "mansionization friendly." For example, Beverly Hills caps home size at 15,000 square feet, restrictive only for those who dream of adding the ever-popular indoor football field. Los Angeles allows a 7600 square foot home on a 5000 square foot lot. This isn't fuzzy math, and the city is not saying you should re-position your neighbor's fence in the middle of the night, gaining a 2600 foot advantage for your new breakfast nook. You must build towards the sun, potentially leaving your neighbors in the dark.

McMansions are perceived by some as the answer for a "Supersize Me," SUV society that subscribes to the notion that bigger is better and that all of ones extended family—regardless of whether they are still alive—must fit neatly into ones abode, even though there are an average of only 2.5 inhabits per property in the U.S. Proponents of these mini-castles say they increase the value of neighboring homes, help with much-needed living accommodations and are inevitable. As urban and suburban space becomes scarce, McMansions will pop up in much the same way as "more compressed" Europe is dotted with row houses. The average size of U.S. homes has grown over the past 45 years from 1,140 to 2,225 square feet, according to a Harvard University study. The National Association of Home Builders reports that 21 percent of houses built in 2004 equaled or exceeded 3000 square feet. These statistics boost the "inevitability" argument. The "increase in property values" assertion succeeds or fails depending on various factors, such as where ones house is situated, the nature of the community and what type of buyers are looking for homes at the time. Are they gourmets or gourmands? Do they welcome McMansions or are they afraid of monsters? The last argument by McMansionites seems flawed. It is unclear how a gargantuan property accommodating two or three inhabitants, as statistics indicate, aids the ever-increasing demand for housing. Mansionization's "contribution" seems more likely to reinforce the image of America as a land of over-consumption and spotlight the gap between the rich and middle class.

Outraged neighbors in California, Connecticut, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Massachusetts convene with local officials to discuss how to halt these stucco intruders, their goal being to implement moratoriums and anti-mansionization ordinances. Their arguments typically hinge both on objective and subjective factors. In addition to problems associated with a loss of privacy and sunlight, many seek to retain the character and architectural tone of their neighborhoods. They argue that the "David and Goliath" disparities and lack of pleasing curves on many of these "architecturally challenged" monstrosities make their communities less aesthetically appealing. Criticism of the "boxy" look is all too common.. But what if some people--such as McMansion shoppers--cherish the boxy look? Should government dictate taste, ruling whether a structure is a fairy princess, a plain Jane or an ugly stepmother? Are Building and Safety employees—usually ex-contractors—experts on charm and color coordination? Will art school graduates have to take their place? New ordinances could force homeowners to hire "housing stylists," in much the same way as Cher and Cameron Diaz employ wardrobe aides and makeup artists. Do we want to forfeit individuality, self-determination and the freedom to do as we please with our single family dwellings, all in exchange for neighborhood uniformity? After all, architectural consistency—as well as Big Brother—can be found in the condo complex or gated community. C, C & R's can impose fines on those who paint their doors red, have garage sales or allow their over-eating poodle to breach the "doggie weight limit." Local government must resist the temptation to formulate aesthetically-based rules; however, this does not preclude activist neighbors from boycotting certain builders and educating buyers about the merits associated with rejecting "trophy houses" comprised of cheesy materials. McMansion supply hinges on McMansion demand. Many builders construct quality products with style, grace and concern for residents of the area. They must be encouraged while less considerate developers should be brought into dialogue with local council members and the stakeholders in the community. In the end, it's not a matter of "much ado, " but a matter of much to do.

Before we get into choosing a portable generator, let\'s review exactly what a portable generator is, and what the standard uses for them are.

What is a portable generator? Typical portable generators are fueled by unleaded gasoline and have standard 120-volt power outlets like the outlets you have on the walls of your home.

What can portable generators be used for? Portable generators are extremely versatile and can be used for a wide variety of purposes. Among the most common uses of a portable generator are: />
- Providing power for a home in an emergency
- Power in locations that do not have access to standard eletric outlets
- Recreational use, such as at campsites and in RVs.

How do I use a portable generator? When the generator is running, you simply plug in your tools or appliances into the 120-volt (standard) electric outlets. Some models of generators also have 240-volt outlets. 240-volt outlets are used for large appliances like clothes dryers.

Now, let\'s talk about what to look for when choosing the right portable generator for you.

How high of a power capacity do I need?
Generators use two basic power measurements: peak power (sometimes referred to as startup power), and continuous power. Both kinds of power are measured in wattage.

- Peak power is the required wattage that appliances need at startup or when they are running at their highest power consumption levels.
- Continuous power is the required wattage to operate appliances under normal circumstances.

What are standby generators? Standby generators are generators that create anywhere from 5,000 to 25,000 watts of power (sometimes even more). You need to choose a generator that supplies enough peak power and continuous power for the appliances that you need to keep powered.

What are you going to use your generator for? For recreational use, A small 1,000-watt portable generator could be all you will need. If you need to power tools at a remote jobsite, you could require up to about 8,000 watts of power.

Another thing to consider is how many outlets you will need on your generator. Make sure there are enough outlets to power all of the appliances you will be using at one time.

The size of the fuel tank is another consideration and is very important. Depending on how long you will potentially need your portable generator to run, you may need a larger fuel tank. The larger the fuel tank, the longer your generator will be able to run without refueling.

Now that you know what to look for, you can compare different portable generators and find out which one will meet your needs. A good resource for your research can be found at this portable generator reference website.

The real estate market is quite difficult nowadays, and if you are trying to sell your house, having a great back yard landscaping could make your house stand out of the crowd and sell faster. Remember that most people trying to sell their house take care of their front yard, since that's the first impression a potential buyer would get. But are they doing the same with their back yard?

The outside of a property is crucial for the house's image, since this can attract or ward off a prospective buyer. Both your front and yo
r back yard should be well taken care of, beautiful and enjoyable, so people can imagine themselves living in it. Read on to learn a few tips on how to maximize your selling potential by improving your back yard.

There are certain aspects of back yard landscaping you should take into account when studying the selling potential of the house. Facts such as the style of the house, the neighborhood and the market you're aiming at should be taken into account.

A modern house deserves a modern yard

Every house should have a yard landscaping that suits the type of house, something that continues the lines and the shapes. Clean lines are crucial to the success of landscaping. In fact, in landscaping less is more, much more. Nothing is more disgusting than an excessive collection of plants that distracts the attention from the house! Don't hide the house by overpopulating it with plants or design items. Instead, take out some plants and bushes, keep a clean line and remember: the focal point should be the house you're selling, not the yard.

A neat back yard goes a long way

Remember to make your yard look good before a potential buyer visits it. There are many things you have to take care regarding the house itself, and most of the times, the yard goes overlooked when it comes to a general cleaning of the property before an open house. Make sure to mow the lawn, trim the bushes and other plants, remove unwanted elements, such as toys and make it look neat and pleasant.

Where people can picture themselves

The key of back yard landscaping is that you should have this goal in mind: make it easier for people to imagine themselves living and enjoying that yard. The yard should invite to relax and pleasure, a place the family can enjoy together and relax. Some elements that can help to this are a patio and a table and chairs in order to enjoy nature comfortably, a barbecue to entertain family and friends. These are just a few suggestions, but you can ask your real estate agent for more ideas to have a great back yard landscaping.

Find out what are the leading garden storage sheds available for your storage needs.

Garden Storage Sheds are great for a number of different reasons and one of these reasons is the fact that they make for a great storage facility for people who have no additional space inside their homes. Depending on the choices you make, you can get such sheds setup rather easily and a number of weather-resistant which does wonders for durability and providing many years of service to their owners. Garden sheds also come in different vari
ties from a number of makers and as with every other manufactured product in life, some tend to be a lot better than others.

Before you go about buying your Garden sheds, you should make sure that you consider your needs as well as your budget. You might also want to think about aspects such as how the sheds will fit in with the rest of your home and the general scheme of things. You should also pay for good quality as well because opting for shortcuts might leave with you with a Garden shed you find less than desirable. The size of your shed will also depend on some of these reasons of needs and budget as well. Some people will require something really large while others will have much more moderate needs and require something equally moderate.

For those interested in arts and crafts as well as a little hard work in between, then there is the option of making your Garden Storage Sheds on your own. This option may be much more suited for those who are adroit with equipment otherwise it would be much more prudent to avoid the hassle and buy one instead. Why waste so much time on an effort that might yield an imperfect shed, instead of buying one that comes solid right from the time you purchase it and requires little or no modification before use.

You can make use of sheds in various ways, even though they are meant primarily meant for storage for gardening implements, they are also good for storing other items as well since they keep such items protected from the elements. Depending on the size of these storage sheds you can also use them for storing other items which you feel are important and which cannot be stored conveniently indoors. The number and kind of items you store depend on the shed size as well as your lifestyle and the sort of stuff you use on a daily basis.

When you need to use Garden Storage Sheds, you are limited in your use by what you donโ€t think of. They can be utilized for just about every storage idea that you can come up with and how effectively they do the task depends on how you allocate the available storage space. These sheds can be purchased at a number of outlets especially those that specialize in hardware items. Other than simply keeping your items safe from the weather, these sheds also help to keep our items safe from prying eyes as well, with many providing rather secure locks for you to enjoy better security with their use.

Despite all of the innovative lighting methods manufactures have dreamed up over the last fifty years and all of the weird and wonderful lighting options available to us today, nothing beats the humble candle for intimacy, relaxation or romance. Maybe it is something primal and instinctive in us- fire has been part of man's survival since the dawn of the species- but the flicker of a flame really does captivate and calm the soul. With canny manufactures realising this, candles are now big business in the interior design industry- there i
literally a candle for every occasion and you can pick them up anywhere from the local garage to designer department stores.

Most people choose to buy tapers, the long slender candles we usually see in candle holders when we lay out special china for an intimate dinner. These usually are about twelve inches long, but can be shorter, from six to ten inches. You can also buy fifteen inch tapers. These candles will fit in any standard candle holder and come in a variety of colours and scents. Generally made simply of paraffin, they also can be infused with various things to give of a beautiful scent as they burn. Depending on the scent they can enliven the spirits- as in the case of lemon or ginger, or alternatively they can be used to soothe and relax- lavender being the best example. Grouping tapers of different heights together is the best way to get the most decorative effect from them.

Another popular candle shape is the tea light. These are smaller disc shaped candles. They are about two to three inches tall and about two inches in diameter. These candles were first used in churches as individuals offered up prayers. They have now found their way into our homes for decorative use. They also can be scented and come in many colours. Whilst less decorative, they are less likely to be knocked over, making them safer to use. Choosing your favourite aroma and lighting a group of tea lights over a hot bath is by far the best way to put tea candles to use.

The third and by far the most impressive type of candle commonly used in homes today is the pillar candle. Much larger and thicker than a normal candle, they come in various shapes and can be cylindrical, rectangular, or square. These candles range from three inches in diameter to a foot across, and can be three to twelve inches tall. These candles also can be decorated or inscribed with designs. Pillar candles are often used in weddings for the candle ceremony. These candles can also be elaborate works of art. Pillar candles can come in many colours and scents. Unsurprisingly they can be much pricier and should therefore be restricted in their use- a centrepiece on a mantle or formally set table being the best uses.

Remember to be safe when using candles. Keep them well away from free flowing fabrics such as curtains and always allow candle holders enough time to cool before handling them.

Outdoor Porch Swings

When it comes to using wood for exceptional quality in outdoor furniture, I first think of cedar. Cedar is a beautiful wood that is very durable and outdoor porch swings and other items made out of cedar will last for generations. It is naturally resistant to decay, insect and weather damage. We regularly go to the Oregon coast for family vacations, and homes with cedar siding are very prevalent. This is because the cedar lasts under the harsh conditions of living right by the ocean. It starts out in a beautiful red / brown color and ages to
a rustic soft silver gray, giving the home a wonderful rustic look. Cedar is also commonly used for split rail and full wood fences. The use of cedar for siding and fences is a testament to its superior durability.

One of my favorite benefits of cedar is its strength to weight ratio, which in layman terms means that the wood is exceptionally strong without being overly heavy. Basically, cedar furniture is easy to move around, you don't have to hire the neighbor's teenage boys when you want to rearrange your patio furniture. This is one down side to teak, another great and common out door wood, teak is just plain heavy!

Another great thing about using cedar for outdoor porch swings is that it does not shrink or warp like other woods can do. Other woods are normally pressure treated to avoid this problem, but then you are exposing your family to chemical preservatives that may be harmful to their health.

I am also really excited about cedar because we finished landscaping our back yard last year, and this spring we will be getting some new outdoor furniture. I knew I wanted cedar because besides all the benefits mentioned above, I simply like the way it ages, I think it gives a garden a truly homey look.

Last year I found a company that sells cedar outdoor porch swings and garden furniture is called Rustic Natural Cedar Furniture Company. They have been specializing in manufacturing cedar products for the both in and out of the home for over 30 years. They use both Northern White Cedar and Western Red Cedar for outdoor products. We bought a wonderful swing for our front porch made of the Northern White Cedar, which starts out a beautiful creamy white color before it changes to the traditional gray. I really wanted to go with them again so that our backyard furniture matched our outdoor porch swing, and they had some great options.

We could go with a basic garden swing, they had them in a variety of sizes. But the footprint is larger than I want, plus we already have the porch swing. Another option they have are gliders, both single and loveseat gliders as well as glider benches. They also have a great double glider with a table between the two gliders all on a cedar stand. Great for out door socializing, and there are optional canopies.

Well, spring is starting to tease us here in north Idaho, we had a beautiful spring like day on Wednesday, but then a snow storm the next day. But it is still the first hint that I must decide soon on what great cedar pieces I want to grace our back yard.
