It\'s been a long, hard winter. It\'s about this time of year, when the days finally become noticeably longer and the temperatures pleasantly warm, when the tool belt begins to call the name of the homeowner to whom it belongs. There are likely gutters that need to be repaired, roofs that need some patching here and there and almost certainly a garden that\'s begging to be planted. When one is looking for information about how to get these processes started and finished in a successful way, satellite television is oftentimes one\
#39;s best friend.

Home and garden television networks are among satellite television\'s most popular offerings. These channels offer a constant stream of expert advice on a diverse range of home improvement projects. From insulating a home to bring it up to the modern standards of energy efficiency to adding the right plants to your yard for your temperature region, satellite television offers plenty of advice.

Many of the home improvement shows are hosted by true experts in the field. Master carpenters are typically very busy people. Getting one to slow down for long enough to dispense some of the wisdom that comes from their vast experience is likely to be a very difficult, and potentially very expensive, task. Of course, not every master carpenter is a master teacher, either. On the satellite channels, these individuals do slow down, share their experience with their viewers and offer a steady stream of advice that ranges from the most mundane, easy tasks to endeavors as complex as hanging a door.

Gardening is a hobby&'a passion, really&'of many individuals. It\'s one of the most gratifying forms of home improvement. It combines the satisfaction of a hard day\'s work with the sense of accomplishment of nurturing a plant to its natural beauty and, thus, availing one\'s home of such beauty, as well. This passion, however, takes some skill and some insight. The gardening programs offered on satellite give information on everything from how to encourage the growth of the most delicate, ornamental plants to how to get the most out of those parts of the yard dedicated to vegetable gardens.

As much as satellite television has represented a huge step forward in entertainment technology, the technology used to build, improve and beautify our homes as increased, as well. These programs are not reruns that cover the \"same old, same old\". Many of them feature builders who incorporate the latest money-saving, environmentally-friendly techniques in their craft. By learning from individuals who make an effort to stay ahead of the curve, homeowners are empowered to make decisions that are both intelligent and cost-effective for their homes and their lives.

This combination of entertainment and learning is very typical of what satellite television has to offer. Satellite\'s huge selection of channels allows a more diverse range of programming than is offered by broadcast television or subscription services that offer fewer channels, such as cable. Even when it comes to improving one\'s home, satellite delivers.

The one thing that usually shocks new tree growers is the fact that the fruits produced by their tree are much smaller than the ones they're used to seeing at the grocery store.

"What is wrong with my tree?!", "My God! What have I done!?" are some cried you may hear from the disgruntled tree grower. However, small fruits are a natural occurrence. But while smaller fruits might be what nature originally intended, it is possible to attain larger fruits without any genetic altering or added chemicals. It
s only through advanced techniques that the professionals reach such large sizes with their fruits.Usually in the early stages of a fruit trees growing, veterans do something called "fruit thinning". The theory behind this process is that with less fruits to pay attention to, the tree will be able to more efficiently send cells to the leftover fruits. When there are hundreds of little fruits on one tree, competing for the available materials necessary for growth, you will most likely just end up with a bunch of stunted fruits. To take care of this problem, simply pluck a third of the fruits extremely early on in the process. You should notice larger fruits that season. On almost any tree, the success of each individual fruit depends on the spacing. Usually there should not be any fruits within six to eight inches of each other. During the fruit thinning process, this is the distance you should generally aim for to optimize the amount of nutrition that each fruit gets. Any closer and you'll find they are crowding each other out. Usually this is the first mistake that a new tree grower makes. Having tons of fruit starting to grow is not always a good thing!Sometimes small fruits are caused by conditions out of the gardener's control. During the process of cell division that all new fruits go through, cool weather can be fatal to the largeness of your fruits. Likewise, if the weather is particularly cloudy very early in the season, then fewer carbohydrates will be available to your plants. Occasionally, if the factors are all against the well being of your fruit tree, then the fruits will drop to the ground before they are even ripe. A lack of water or certain nutrients, or excessive pests and diseases can also damage the growth of fruits. If you notice these things going on early in the season, you should do more fruit thinning than normal. Sometimes as much as three fourths of the fruits should come off, to allow full nutrition to those who remain. The best way to find out how to gain larger fruit sizes is to experiment. If your tree has been around for a while, there is almost nothing you can do to it to cause it to die or stop producing fruit. Just test different thinning techniques or anything you can think of to make the fruits larger. You might even head down to your local nursery and enquire about what they would suggest. They will be able to give you advice based on your region and specific tree, which is better than anything I could tell you. So don't settle with small fruits. Go out there and find out what exactly you need to do to improve the size.

Carports are not garages. Well, that's obvious right? I mean, they are not completely enclosed. They don't usually have built in storage or shelving. They are open for all the world to see. They are just carports. But that's the great thing about them. They are a place to put your car, boat or RV and that's pretty much it. Simple, functional, relatively inexpensive, and sometimes even moveable. They come in all sorts of configurations, from metal, to wood, to canvas. And, they range in price from the hundreds to the thousands
of dollars. But more on that later. First, I just have to take a little trip down memory lane.

I don't think that carports are usually associated with fond memories, but they are for me. When I was a kid I lived in a house that had an attached carport. Sort of a lean-to structure built onto the house. It didn't have a closeable door so was always open in the front. It wasn't very big but it holds a special place in my memories because it was where so many magical moments happened. There was something wonderful about it. For example, when the thunderstorms would roll in we would go outside and listen to the rain while we stood protected and dry under the carport roof. I can almost smell and hear it in my memory. That space also served as our fort when we played cowboys and Indians. And it was always "safe" when we played hide-and-go-seek. When we would return from going someplace in the car, it was the carport that welcomed us home. The car barely fit, but it was home. When we would have water fights with our Dad, the carport became a place of relative protection. He did have the hose after all, so we couldn't totally escape, but the carport offered at least the sense of refuge. And it is where I learned to first ride a bike. Wow, how warm and fuzzy can carports make one person feel.

But enough of that. What I really want to talk about is some of the details and benefits that modern carports offer. I'm not talking about the built on carports common in the 1970's. I am talking about the ultra modern, snazzy structures and covers that serve as carports today. These things range from being simple quality canopies like the ones made by companies like King Canopy, to carports that are enclosed professional grade storage spaces that can be closed off from the elements and made secure.

The Jewett-Cameron company makes carports that act as shelters for recreational vehicles, modular boat storage, car and truck storage, and even workshop type canopies. These carports are domed shaped and come in a wide variety of sizes. The nice thing about these is that they are built to last and can be assembled almost anywhere.

And finally, carports like those made by Rhino are heavy duty open sided steel covered structures that give greater protection than canvas carports and are just as portable. They also come in a variety of sizes so you are sure to find one that will work for you.

So, as you can see, besides providing fond memories for kids, they provide great functionality for adults!

We give you the tips and tricks in buying an outdoor security camera. Don't miss this revealing guide!

There are several important aspects you must consider before buying an outdoor security camera. Of utmost importance is the planning stage; how much area do you intend to cover and which areas are less likely to require monitoring.

Weather resistance is another vital factor in security camera systems. Most aren't designed to withstand severe extremes in weather therefore pick the wrong type of camera and it could b
like sending money down the drain.

- SSC-44B is a well priced unit with a host of features and specially designed for outdoor surveillance. It's weatherproof features make it ideal for areas which may experience both spectrums of the weather scale. Features include:

- a digital still-frame imaging system- passive infra red detector(PIR) motion sensor- it has a invisible infrared illuminator built in

- is easy to use and set upThis unit comes attractively priced, around $350 without a monitor and is worth pursuing particularly if you don't have a lot of experience with security cameras.

The Day/Night outdoor security camera from Smart Home has attracted a lot of interest. For starters, it's designed for outdoor use so it will resist the elements with it's corrosion resistant metal housing and sunshade housing. It's ability to provide high resolution pictures during the day in color and then revert to black and white when light is low combined with it's effectiveness in low light areas make it ideal for outdoor surveillance. This camera unit can connect to either a TV or VCR and is perfect for a domestic home or business. It's capacity to see up to 25 feet in night conditions is another feature. It's very attractively priced at under $200.

Did You Know?Outdoor security cameras have come a long way. Formerly with no iris control, nowadays cameras have progressed to the stage where they are fitted with a feature that acts like an iris and can control how much light enters the camera. The Preferred Option?Digital video systems are quickly becoming the preferred option with consumers. Why? There is nothing worse for someone who has just been burgled and upon checking the security video tape finds it is of poor quality. One of the biggest complaints with analog is the relatively short life span of it's video tapes.

Outdoor Security Camera PricingOutdoor security cameras vary a lot in price. Obviously this depends a lot on the size of the property you want to cover but also some extra features will bump up the price of a camera.

You could effectively obtain excellent security coverage for between $100-$200 and there are some very good units on the market. Prices can range all the way up to over $1000. Some of the extra features which can push the price up include a pan and tilt zoom feature. You have got to decide if this is suitable for your situation.

Planning poorly can cost you big time either in frustration or suffering through a burglary. A poorly planned outdoor security camera system can mean vital areas aren't being covered such as blind spots. Under protecting your property is another mistake. If you are going to the expense of installing security coverage and can afford it, then try to get even coverage throughout your property.

House plants add texture and color to the interior of your home.  Follow these gardening tips for buying new house plants for your enjoyment.

When buying house plants whether it is from Lowes, Home Depot or a local garden center there are several things to consider.  Many people just pick up a house plant without giving any thought, especially if the cost is low.  But think about this, every house plant you purchase can give you years of enjoyment if it is properly inspected before you buy.  Take time to
hoose a perfect house plant.  If you hastily buy a house plant, it has the potential of causing devastation to your other house plants.  And one rule to always abide by is never buy plants when you are in a hurry, that's a gardening tip everyone should heed.

Take the time to inspect the leaves on the house plant for pests.  Aphids, spider mites and scale will not only wreck havoc on this house plant but on your others as well.  And be sure to look under the leaves and at the nodes where many pests thrive.  Here is what to look for on your potential house plant:

Aphids appear as small green or black insects, usually found on buds and new growth. These insects suck the juices out of house plants, and also secrete honeydew.

Spider mites are small insects, which appear as small white specks, usually on the undersides of leaves, or on flowers of the house plant. Spider mites will form webbing, like a spider's web around infected house plants. The spider mites will be visible in the webbing as white specks.

Scale looks like tiny, brown, oval-shaped bumps visible on the house plants leaves and stem. The scale is actually a protective covering which protects the insect. Scales produce honeydew, a clear sticky substance which can be seen on affected house plants.

You may want to search the internet for other gardening tips on how to treat these pests if one happens to infect some of your house plants.

If the house plant seems too big for the container, pass it by, it is likely to be root bound.  Remember bigger isn't necessarily better.  I always pull a house plant from it's container to check the root ball; reputable stores should allow you to do this. If the house plant is already root bound you will have to open your wallet not only for the plant but for potting soil and a new container.  Then YOU have to repot it and hope it will continue to be healthy.  If you don't mind this, then by all means buy the house plant.  If you are going to repot you may want to look at the self watering containers that are available now.  These are great for someone that travels and isn't around everyday to check the soil.

Examine the container of the house plant for cracks.  Be sure the container will harmonize with your existing house plants containers. Try to purchase plants by shape and height when using the house plant for groupings in and around your home.  Keep the small tag that is attached to the plant in a notebook so you will always have the directions on the plants needs. This is a really good gardening tip!

Now you know the secrets of buying spectacular house plants.

Happy Gardening!

I received an email from a lady by the name of Elizabeth. Elizabeth lives in Mesa, Arizona. She has a Ranch style four bedroom, three and one half bathroom home in the typical Spanish architecture of that region of the southwestern United States.

Anyway, she wrote to me saying that she was doing some decorating in two rooms of her home and was looking for some wall decorating suggestions. Elizabeth went on further to say that the rooms that she was about to decorate are the living room and the dining room.

To make thi
gs easier for me to understand in regards to the decor and furniture already in these rooms, she sent me pictures of both of the rooms so that I could study them carefully and make my suggestions.

Almost instantly my thoughts went to wall sconce candle holders. There are some beautiful pieces that would add subtle charm to any southwestern decor.

I started with the living room. In this room the carpet is a medium tan. There is a rather large overstuffed dark brown leather couch, a red leather chair and a cloth chair in a southwestern pattern of reds, yellows, greens and golds. Surrounded by the couch and chairs is a large square marble coffee table in a medium dark brown marble swirl.

There is an adobe fireplace in the wall corner in the shape of a cone with the larger part of the cone on the bottom, tapering up the corner if the wall. This fireplace is a medium brown with artful scrolls in dark brown accenting the opening of the fireplace, the large black mantle and the upper half of the cone going up the wall corner.

To the left of the fireplace are windows and a sliding glass door overlooking the desert and mountains in the background. On the right side of the fireplace is a wall with two large unframed Native American oil paintings, one on top of the other. This is due to the lack of wall space because there is a large oak entertainment center covering most of the wall space.

This is all I needed to see. I immediately went to work and found several wall sconce candle holders that would complete this room. My choices were the Varazze Wall Sconce, the Leyanna Mosaic Wall Sconce, the Belleville Wall Sconce or the Meyda Scrolling Wall Sconce. Any one of these wall sconce candle holders would add an awesome feel to Elizabeths living room.

Next, I took a look at the pictures of Elizabeths dining room. The floor in this room is oak. In the middle of the room is a rustic looking large oak dining room table sitting on a large southwestern style woven rug. Around the table are ten oak chairs with ox blood colored padded leather backs and seats.

There is a large American Indian wall tapestry on the wall opposite the outer wall of the room. Below the tapestry is a long buffet cabinet that matches the table and chairs. The outer wall has two rather large windows with colorful southwestern window treatments. The wall space in between the two large windows is a boulder fireplace going up the entire wall.

It took me only a few minutes before I had some great suggestions for wall sconce candle holders on each side of the tapestry. I came up with three wall sconce candle holders that would enhance the overall look of the room. These choices were the Crossed Arrow Western Wall Sconce Pair, the Rustic Essence Wall Sconce and the Copper Round Sconce Pair. Any of these would add a warm feeling to the room.

So I emailed Elizabeth with my list of wall sconce candle holders for each room.

A few days later I get an email from Elizabeth saying that she loved my suggestions and she decided to buy all of them. She said that it was just too difficult to choose only one set of wall sconce candle holders from my selection, so she got them all. This way she can change them from time to time and keep a fresh new look to these rooms in her home all year round.

With so many styles to choose from, wall sconce candle holders are the perfect addition to most any room in your home. These charming wall sconce candle holders will add a pleasant feeling of tranquility to your home environment. Relax, sit back and enjoy the delightful candlelight comfort.

Ceiling fans and air-conditioners have been the main cooling equipment for decades. First came the fans and then the air conditioners. Air conditioners dominated the cooling equipment sector but it should not be promoted due to the enormous consumption of electricity and supporting the causes of emission of greenhouse gases.

Almost one-sixth of U.S. Electricity is consumed by the air conditioners per year. During peak periods in scorching summers this figure raise to 40%. The ongoing trend of rising global temperatures and intense hea
waves can increase the consumption further.

The rapidly increasing energy demand in U.S. is creating more environmental pressure. Almost 30% of the country's greenhouse gases & 70% of the acid rain is caused by the electricity generation from fossil fuels. Half of the US energy is produced from coal, the dirtiest fossil fuel. The power plants generating electricity from coal produce two-third of sulfur oxide emissions; one-third of nitrogen oxide, main component of acid rain and smog; one-third of the country's mercury emissions, which settle in waterways and contaminate the food chain; and one-third of carbon dioxide emissions, the primary global warming reason.

If comparing the figures given in previous two paragraphs, one can easily estimate that how-much the use of air-conditioners is responsible for global warming.

Just reverse are the ceiling fans, not only a quiet, elegant and inexpensive means but an excellent energy savers. A ceiling fan at maximum speed uses 50 to 75 watts per day, as much as an incandescent bulb, that is one-tenth as much as a medium size air conditioner. Running 12 hours a day cost almost $1.50 a month, much less compared to $25 for an air conditioner.

Also the ceiling fans work on a different principle. Ceiling fans, one of the popular electric fans, cool by creating light breezes that evaporate moisture from the skin. On the other hand air conditioners consume huge amounts of energy to push the heat from indoor air and blow it outside. The circulating air generated by ceiling fans feels 9 degree cooler. Combined with other energy efficient means, ceiling fans can yield even greater savings.

The electricity generated for the average household in US expel 13,000 pounds of carbon dioxide, 77 pounds of sulfur dioxide, and 47 pounds of nitrogen oxide into the atmosphere each year. Isn't this our duty to do our bit to save our environment? And that too without sacrificing comfort, and saving some dollars.

Have you ever thought of the repercussions you are causing to our mother nature because of the high energy consumption in our homes? In most homes, electricity is mainly used for heating water. Electricity that we use is produced with the help of either fossil fuels or nuclear energy. This produces a large amount of carbon dioxide which when released into the atmosphere causes several problems involving global warming.

There is a way out of this entire energy crisis and that is to use renewable resources instead. From ages past th
idea of passive solar water heater is in practice. Solar water heaters harness the sun's radiations and convert it into heat which is then used to heat water. This method is harmless and is very efficient too. There are two types of systems namely the active and the passive solar water heater.

In the passive solar water heater systems water or the heat transfer fluids are circulated without the usage of electrical pumps and other devices. The batch systems of the passive solar water heater category consist of large insulated storage vessels with the painted side facing the sun. This absorbs the radiations and converts it to the water molecules inside. With continuous motion, the heat is circulated.

The other kind of passive solar water heater systems include a thermosiphon system which is based on the idea that warm water rises up. Water is circulated through collection tanks and then into a holding tank which is placed above it. In this manner water is heated continuously.

Your electricity bill will be cut down to large extents when such a passive solar water heater is used. You can be satisfied of the fact that you are not harming the environment in any manner. These can be fixed by using components that are easily available. When you opt for such a solar heater, you can be sure of the fact that you are choosing an eco friendly method that will cost you very less too.

As soon as you know youre moving house, it's an excellent idea to select a removal method. This can be either a professional removalist service or the do-it-yourself approach. Youll need to ideally give your removalists as much notice as possible to ensure you can secure their services.

When deciding wh
ch moving company to use, it is good to consider &' does the new residence permit access for large appliances and large pieces of furniture? What is the cost of hiring a truck? Do you have the time that is required to move and transport your life on your own?

1 month before the move
So the move is fast approaching, things to consider 1 month out from the move should include -
Change of address and redirection for your mail
Contact people and organizations that will need your new address, these may include:
Tax Office
Phone and Cable companies
Cell Phone Carries/provider
Electricity company
Your existing (and new) Landlord/s
Doctors
Dentists
Insurance companies - life, car and house
Employers
Dept of Social Security
Schools and child carers
Banks and Financial Institutions
Magazine and mail order subscriptions
Libraries
Electoral Office

Once youve notified any and all of the above services you may also want to consider some of the following items to consider over the course of the final month in your home.
Get rid of as much junk as you can. Charity bins, garage sales, friends, family, whoever can and will take it!
Use the existing food in your refrigerator and cupboards as much as possible. This will save time and effort to pack and transport it, or alternative save money if you plan on throwing this out.
Check your insurance policy &' will your current insurance policy cover your move?
Make a list of items that you will need available on the moving day, so that you don't pack something essential (Car Keys, Packing Tape, Scissors etc)
If youre renting the property contact your landlord or real estate agent. Confirm the date that you will be leaving the property and arrange for the refund of your bond upon final inspection.
Do you have Pets or animals that will be coming with you? Do you need to buy or hire a custom carrier box for animals? Will you require a specialized company that deals in the transport of animals? If your Pet has a microchip it is worth remembering that this should also be updated with the new address and contact numbers. Or if you dont have a microchip perhaps a new collar or name and address tag is a good idea.

2 weeks prior to your move

Call your removals company and confirm the date of the move, any special arrangements you may have made and the pickup and drop off times. This applies for any hire truck or storage companies you may also be dealing with during the move.
Cancel you local services. This may include Dog Walking, Baby Sitting, Car Pooling, Gardening and Newspapers for example. You may also want to return any DVDs, Library Books and pick up any Dry cleaning you have within the city of your departure.
The Clean up. Arrange for carpets to be cleaned after the furniture has been moved out. Defrost and clean refrigerator.

Packing. If youre plan on moving yourself at least your own packing requirements, the sooner you can start packing the better really. Remember to label cartons appropriately so youll be able to find things when unpacking. Group items from each room together in the same box so when unpacking begins a rooms contents only need be put away.

On the Moving Day

Confirm key collection arrangements with Agents, Brokers, Landloards, whoever it may be.
Pack a small box of items you'll need for immediate use in your new home, including some bathroom essentials, at least one change of clothes and a towel for a shower after the havoc of it all!
Do a final check of all cupboards and storage areas throughout the house.
Check off all pieces of furniture and box against your inventory list as they are loaded into the van or truck.
Turn off electricity at your meter
Remember to lockup on your departure. Doors, Windows, Garages, Wine Cellars and anything else that may need securing.
Keep your valuables, personal items and important papers with you during the move.
To a final check throughout the house and around the property to ensure you haven't left anything behind.
When you do arrive at your new destination its a great idea to unpack the bedding and make up beds as soon as possible &' trust me youll be thankful at the end of a tiring day.

The secret to making your flowering trees, shrubs, annuals, and perennials bloom more is in the numbers. All fertilizers have analysis numbers on the package. These numbers represent the percentage of each chemical the fertilizer contains.

For example, 12-12-12 is a typical garden fertilizer that would contain 12% nitrogen, 12% phosphorous, and 12% potassium. The quick explanation is; nitrogen produces vegetative, or top growth, phosphorous produces flower buds, fruit, and root development, while potassium builds strong healthy plants.

Most lawn grasses are vigorous growers and therefore require significantly more nitrogen than the other plants in your yard. A lawn fertilizer would have an analysis of 26-3-3, indicating a fertilizer high in nitrogen. You would not want to use a fertilizer containing such a high percentage of nitrogen on landscape plants because it would be very easy to burn them. You must also keep in mind that many lawn fertilizers contain broadleaf weed killers, and most ornamental plants have broad leaves. The fertilizer doesn't know the difference, and it will damage or kill ornamental trees and shrubs.

During the summer months the growth rate of most plants slows down, and when plants are not actively growing, they need very little nitrogen. Although not vigorously putting on new growth, many plants such as Dogwood Trees, Rhododendrons, and Azaleas are quietly working to produce flower buds for next year. Annual and perennial flowers are also busy making new flower buds.

To encourage flower bud production you can apply a fertilizer that contains a small percentage of nitrogen, a higher percentage of phosphorous, and a little potassium. I recently purchased a liquid fertilizer with an analysis of 5-30-5, ideal for flower production. Because the product is sold as a bloom producer, the manufacturer also added a little chelated iron, manganese, and zinc, all good for your plants as well.

Most garden centers and discount stores carry similar products. I chose a liquid fertilizer because liquid fertilizers are absorbed both through the roots and systemically through the foliage, so they work quicker. I used a sprayer that attaches to the end of the garden hose to apply the fertilizer, but do not use the same hose end sprayer that you use for lawn fertilizers. There could be residual weed killer still in the sprayer.

About those hose end sprayers. I purchased one that is supposed to automatically mix the proper ratio for you. I used it to apply a general insecticide, and it worked, but it sure seemed like I went through a lot more insecticide than I needed. When I used it for the fertilizer the screen on the little pick up hose inside the jar kept getting clogged with the tiny solids in the fertilizer. I recommend using a solution of one part liquid fertilizer to one part water in the sprayer jar, and applying at a heavier rate.

Watch the liquid in the sprayer jar, and if it isn't going down remove the lid and clean the little screen by spraying it with water from the garden hose. Read the application instructions on the container to determine how much fertilizer to apply, and how often. A fertilizer high in phosphorous will increase flower production. You will see a difference.

Remember the golden rule of applying fertilizers. "Not enough is always better than too much."

Dry Carpet Cleaning

เขียนโดย admin | 19:19

This article provides useful, detailed information about Dry Carpet Cleaning.

Dry carpet cleaning involves cleaning carpets without the use of a liquid-based detergent or cleaning agent. It prevents the retention of moisture after cleaning. Usually, it is used to clean carpets made of fine fibers and prevents them from getting damaged. The process involved in dry carpet cleaning is a simple one. It requires a cleaning agent, which is powder-based and a solvent.

The solvent is sprinkled on the carpet. (Some can be spra
ed.) Using a brush, it is then spread evenly over the carpeted surface and into the base. It is then left to work for approximately half an hour or more depending on the brand.

Once the solvent has been sprayed, and a brush has been used to reach all parts of the carpeted surface, the solvent attracts dirt, which dissolves in the solvent so that when the carpet is vacuumed dirt that has dissolved is removed.

Before using the dry carpet cleaning method, it is important to take a few precautions. If there is any solid dirt in the carpet, such as dry residues caused by spilt liquids after they dry, it should be manually removed from the carpet surface. Basically, the carpet should be scanned to check for solid pieces or chunks that might be present. If these are left in the carpet, they might dissolve when the powder-based solvent is sprayed and cause further damage to the carpet.

The carpet should also be as dry as possible before the process is started. For instance, if a liquid has accidentally been spilt on it, the liquid should first be absorbed manually using cotton wool or a soft kitchen towel. The presence of moisture can dilute the effect of the powder-based cleaning agent that is being used, and can, therefore, dilute the impact of cleaning. The same applies to stains. If stains are removed before the carpet is cleaned, there is no risk of them dissolving again and damaging the carpet, when the powder-based solvent is sprayed.

While dry carpet cleaning is a popular cleaning method, and involves fewer risks than other methods that involve the use of liquid-based cleaning methods, recommendations made by carpet manufacturers serve as the best guidelines. This is because the dry carpet cleaning method may not damage your carpet while being cleaned, but may not effectively clean your carpet if it is not the recommended cleaning method for your carpet.

We use dimpled membranes mainly for the mechanical protection of basements waterproofing layers.

In some countries e.g. Canada these products are used as the main waterproofing product.Audacious undertaking I have to confess!!

Today we will analyse two not very prevalent uses of dimpled membranes

1.Dimpled membranes as vapor barriers under ground floor slabs

This is a very clever application to replace mechanically vulnerable polyethylene films.g>

I use HDPE dimpled membranes of at least 25tn/m2 with great success for this application. Many times I combine vapor barrier with lean concrete replacement. Thus we kill two birds with one stone!

The product is unrolled on leveled ground after we place and compact 10cm of washed gravel on a geotextile. Dimples (knobs) should face downwards.

I use an overlap of about 15cm. Sometimes I seal the overlaps with MS Polymers or proprietary tapes, sometimes I dont.

This is not of utmost importance since water vapor cannot move freely between dimpled membrane and concrete. Only if free movement existed, the sealing would be imperative.

This HDPE product is much more robust from a polyethylene foil.

2..Dimpled membranes to replace lean concrete

This is an application rapidly gaining ground in Europe

My experience from such applications is excellent.

There are very concrete advantages in this kind of job:

1. Absolutely less cost

2. Quicker job. No dependency on weather

3. Clean job

4. HPDE membrane could also work as vapor barrier. Just seal the seams with the appropriate butyl tape.

How to use

Substrate should be level. A layer of gravel could be needed. Choose a membrane with a pressure resistance of at least 25tn/m2. Dimples should look downwards. Successive layers should have an overlap of 15cm. The surface is ready to accept the slab reinforcement.

Dimpled membranes are perfectly accessible to workers and wheelbarrows

While there are more luxurious and spacious kinds of tents available in the market, emergency tube tents tend to be the favorite of campers and other outdoor enthusiasts because of their quick, no-hassle setup.

Advantages of Using an Emergency Tube Tent

Compact
Emergency tube tents are commonly used for outdoor trips and as such, they come in compact designs to take up as little space as possible in your camping gear. Unlike other types of tents, they dont require you to bring seve
al poles with you for setup. All you need to do is find the ideal location, one where you can tie the nylon rope (included in your emergency tube tent kit) from one end to another, insert the rope through the tube attached to the tent and voila! Youve got youre A-shaped tent up and ready to use.

Reusable
Not infinitely, but it will definitely last for several trips. As such, you need not worry about having to take with you several emergency tube tent kits for a three-night camping trip this summer. One would do very well already.

Lightweight
Emergency tube tents are not only compact but lightweight as well due to the materials used for making them. You can put it inside your backpack and it wont make a difference.

Safe
First and foremost, emergency tube tents are fireproof and fire-retardant. This is an excellent safety feature when youre battling the forces of nature and lightnings striking close by. Emergency tube tents are also weatherproof: neither water nor wind will be able to prevent you from having a good nights sleep.

Be aware, however, that emergency tube tents are designed to have their sides opened. If you want those ends covered, youll have to use clothesline pins to keep them closed securely throughout the night.

Shopping Tips for Emergency Tube Tents

Size
Some emergency tube tents can only accommodate one person plus gear while others are large enough to accommodate two persons. Its best to take this up with your camping partners and base your purchase on your sleeping arrangements.

Thickness of Material
Some emergency tube tents are only 1.5 to 2 millimeters thick. Thats more than enough to protect you from adverse weather, but it might not be enough to prevent accidental tears. For greater durability, try looking for emergency tube tents made of thicker materials.

Color
Lastly, choose a bright shade for your emergency tube tent so that youre easily seen at night. Having a highly visible shade for your tent will also make it advantageous to use as a signal if youre lost or you wish to make contact with other campers from a distance.

For every home, a garden is not just an extension of one's home, but a place to relax, unwind and soak up the nature. A beautifully contoured landscape, blooming flowers and just spending restful hours in the midst of beauty is what every homeowner yearns for. Gardening can definitely become a passion; when you get to pick your very own fresh vegetables and fruits. Although there are landscaping firms who can take care of your backyard just as well; but you could end up paying thousands of dollars just to recarpet a lawn and perhaps a li
tle more to maintain it. It is especially important for the beginner gardener to choose the right types of plants, determine the spot in the backyard where the garden needs to be designed; select the right garden space, adopt appropriate techniques to take care of one's plants in the backyard and much more. Pre-plan each and every step before setting up your backyard garden, so it becomes a fun filed adventure rather than a nightmarish ritual.

Research and Analyze

The first step is to evaluate the maintenance needs of your garden and pre-determine the space that needs to be allocated to the garden in your backyard. Design your garden with a practical approach and pre-set a budget for yourself. If you face a paucity of time; try and find solutions to high-maintenance issues. A systematic approach will lead you to decide on the right tools required for the development and maintenance of your backyard garden. Alternatively; opt for a weekend backyard garden that needs little to moderate maintenance. Also, take into consideration the current condition of your backyard. In case your backyard has a few existing plants; you would need to decide on which plants you require and the ones that you need to get rid of.

Keep it simple and uncluttered

The focus should be on having a breathable garden rather than a cluttered one. Make sure that your garden is not overcrowded with plants; or it will lend it a cluttered look. Besides that; having too many plants will just attract insects and mosquitoes. Best approach is to draw a rough sketch of the garden lay-out and take into account every minute detail.

Selecting the Right Kinds of Plants

If the homeowner wants that their garden should attract butterflies; they should opt for plants that butterflies are strongly attracted to. These plants include aspen, dill, aster, lilac, pansy, milkweed, marigold, clover, chokecherry, aster and dill among others.

Identifying the right spot

The direction of the sun in your backyard is the deciding factor when identifying the right spot for your garden. North corners are ideal for ferns. The southern direction gives constant sun exposure all day long and each side gets balanced warmth from the sun. The rows should be aligned north and south; so the plants get the sun rays during morning and afternoon hours. If the garden is facing towards the southeast; it may be subjected to little or moderate western sun. In this case; run the rows northwest and southeast for an even sunlight distribution. The northern exposure is definitely not a very good idea; as it would not receive any sunlight. For north-eastern and south-western directions; the plants may be subjected to an uneven distribution of sunlight. The idea therefore; is to plan it in a way that the garden plants receive an evenly distributed sunlight for the longest time period.

The Garden Soil

A new garden spot is most likely covered either with turf or rubbish. For a larger garden area; the ploughing of the ground is done whereas with smaller gardens; the sod is removed. In order to remove the sod; stake out the garden path. The line will help you with an accurate course to be followed. Then you would need to cut the edges along the marked line with the help of a spade. The sod can be put to good use as it makes a good fertilizer. Here you have two options to choose from:
1. You could turn the sod over after having dug holes in your garden. The sod can then be put in the hole and then cover it with soil.
2. Identify a spot where the sod grass can be packed together. Leave it to rot. Over a period of time; it can be used as fertilizer.

Make sure that the ground where the planting needs to take place is fine so that the seeds get finely packed into the soil particles. Avoid large lumps as these create larger spaces and the tiny hair root of the plant will not be able to penetrate though.

Make sure that you do a fair amount of research beforehand and lap up on as much gardening tips and information as possible.

Installing solar panels in your home can be a great way of counting with energy converted into electricity in a much less expensive way than the electricity we are used to use.

Using photovoltaic panels, also known as PV panels, we can count with the all the energy and electricity necessary to live comfortable, without any problem related to fossil fuels, and by saving an important of money from bills.

PV panels were born towards middles of the 1960's and were first developed for the space program. But nowadays,
hey have become one of the most popular options for not only home energy but a variety of appliances as well. These panels can be found in telecommunication systems, road signs, and calculators, among many others.

PV solar panels can be installed on a variety of different kinds of roofs. The best time to install solar panels is when the house is being built or roofed, since then solar panel mounts can be built much more easily. Besides this, when solar panel mounts are built along with the roof, there is much less possibilities that there might appear any roof leaks in the future.

It is important to know that all solar panels mounts must be secured with stainless steel lag bolts which should be bolted into rafters. The installation of these mounts is one of the most important steps of the PV panels' installation, if not the most, so it is important to do this very carefully and paying attention to every detail.

If you wish to install solar panels on a tile roof, you should ask an expert for advice since such roofs are among the most complicated ones for the procedure. But, even if you have roofs on which solar panels should be easy to be installed, such as for example composition shingle roofs, you might still ask an expert for guidance or even hire him to do the work, since unless you know exactly what to do and every step involved in the task, the installation might not be successful and you could end loosing time and money.

Organic gardening, which is sometimes thought of as something out of the 60s hippie culture, has been steadily growing in popularity over the years. Not only can you find entire aisles of organics at the local supermarket, the number of specialty stores dedicated to organically grown foods has increased dramatically. Part of this popularity is due to an increasing understanding of the dangers associated with synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. Growing organically generally means gardening without these potentially dangerous chemicals. Many
backyard gardeners are turning to organic methods as they realize how easy and effective organic growing can be.

Part of the reason chemical pesticides and fertilizers are so widely used is because they work well. In deciding to use organic methods in your backyard garden, you first will need to accept the fact that you will likely have more pest damage and lower yields than if you were employing chemicals. Many people are willing to make this trade off in return for the opportunity to harvest chemical-free foods for themselves and their families.

There are several different approaches and techniques used in organic gardening. You may find that you are using some of them already. If you have selected cultivars that are resistant to pests or drought, you are involved in one form of organic gardening. If you put out a scarecrow or bars of hand soap to keep animals away, this too is organic gardening. Compost is an organic fertilizer. Organic techniques are around in many gardens already. By utilizing them more and moving away from chemicals, you can improve the environment and lead a healthier lifestyle.

There are different levels of organic gardening and different reasons why people choose organic methods. Some do it because they do not want to harm any animals, even aphids or cutworms. So they try to develop a system where they can cohabitate peacefully, keeping insects and other animals out when possible and removing them or learning to live with them when other options don't work.

Some people are not opposed to pest control and extermination but they don't want to add any more chemicals to the environment or to the food that they eat. Others go organic as a means of getting back to a more historic, natural, and even challenging way of gardening. You will need to decide which methods match your personal philosophies and reasons for going organic.

Pest control and fertilization are two of the key areas to focus on with organic gardening. In addition to using native, resistant plants, mulching, and practicing crop rotation, the use of other natural methods of pest control and of compost and manure as fertilizer can go a long way toward creating a more organic garden.

Pest Control

There are many ways that backyard gardeners can control insects and other pests without the use of synthetic chemicals.

- Use mesh row covers to keep insects off of plants. They need to be removed from squashes, melons, cucumbers, peppers and other plants that require or benefit from pollinations during flowering.
- Collars placed around young plants will help prevent damage by cutworms.
- Allow natural predators such as ladybugs and wasps to assist you in your efforts by planting vegetation that will attract them to your garden and avoiding pesticides that harm them as well.
- Screens, cold frames and fences can help keep some insects and animals such as rabbits out of the garden.
- Aphids can be removed from plants with a strong stream of water. Hand removing insects such as potato beetles can be effective in small gardens.
- Weed your garden and turn the soil regularly to help reduce the growth of insects that like to nest in certain plant debris.
- Learn to identify the egg clusters of harmful insects and remove them immediately
- Use homemade insecticides such as garlic spray or other harmless pest inhibitors.
- Try using non-invasive methods of pest control including soap bars, cuttings of human hair, or an alert dog in the yard. These techniques may or may not be effective, but are worth a try before resorting to chemicals.
- Some home pesticides such as those that use rhubarb or tobacco plants can be very dangerous to humans and other mammals. Use caution and be sure you know what you're getting into before you begin.

Organic Fertilizers

Of course you want your plants to grow quickly and produce large yields. However, chemical fertilizers are potentially harmful to those who eat the plants and to the environment, especially if applied too heavily and allowed to run off into water supplies and habitat areas. Using organic fertilizers can decrease the problems associated with chemicals.

Manure is a natural, effective fertilizer if used properly. Not only does it improve soil structure, it provides the nutrients plants need to develop. Manure that is allowed to age and decompose before use is most effective. Pasteurized manure is less likely to include active weed seed or harmful bacteria. Do not apply too heavily.

Create and maintain a compost pile to use as fertilizer. Not only does it incorporate the use of natural organic material such as leaves, lawn clippings and household waste such as potato peels and carrot stems, it also provides a free source of fertilizer and reduces the amount of waste that is hauled to landfills.

If you choose to use chemical fertilizers, use sparingly and choose a slow release variety that is less likely to leech into vulnerable areas.

Companion planting, which is the practice of putting together two plants that seem to benefit each other, has been offered as a means of enhancing organic gardening practices. It is thought that plants such as nicotina and marigolds are natural pest deterrents. However, there is no firm research to support this as yet. Still, many gardeners have reported success with this method.

Additionally, planting vegetables with prickly vines, such as watermelon or squashes around the perimeter of vulnerable plants may help keep out rabbits and other animals that don't like the scratchy vines.

These days, many gardeners are looking for ways to reduce the use of chemicals and rely on more natural and inexpensive means of providing food for their tale and backyard growing enjoyment. Organic gardening techniques provide fun and healthy options.

I find planters as an excellent opportunity to give colour and a pleasant dimension to the townscape.

Planters can be made from many materials, concrete included. Planters made from porous materials definitely need waterproofing.

In waterproofing terms and procedures we had better consider planters as basements because there is constant contact with moist soil.

Now, you will not find hydrostatic pressure in a planter &' except for rare occasions &' but you will
ertainly find capillary absorption and salt transportation to the external surfaces.

Effloresence wont bring the disaster but aesthetically speaking the depreciation of the planter could be significant.

WATERPROOFING OPTIONS

Waterproofing materials suitable for planters should combine the following characteristics:

1) flexibility: planters are continuously exposed to temperature variations.

2) withstand temporary hydrostatic pressure.

3) possess antiroot properties. Acids excreted from plant root systems are very powerful.

Waterproofing products to be excluded:

* conventional SBS and APP membranes

* asphalt emulsions and rubberized emulsions

* cementitious waterproofing products.

What we should use:

a) SBS membranes type garden. These products are used for big planters. They are the same products we use for conventional roof gardens with extensive vegetation.

b) SBS, self-adhesive membranes with antiroot properties . This is a very effective solution and could be a do-it-yourself one with proper care. Always use the appropriate, preparatory asphaltic primer

c) For small planters we could choose brushable, elastomeric, waterproofing products most ususally based on polyurethane resins. This is a simple, versatile and efficacious as well solution.

Termination of waterproofing on vertical walls should be 10-15 cm above soil surface. An additional, protective waterproofing stripe might be needed near soil surface if main waterproofing layer shouldnt stay exposed.

Before proceeding to planting, always execute a flood test.

DRAINAGE CONSIDERATIONS

Do cater for the easy drainage of excessive water. Big water quantities in the root zone will cause problems.

Traditionally we used gravel to form a drainage layer. Then one geotextile on the top and everything OK!

There are better ways nowadays! We have many light and flexible geocomposite products in our drainage weaponry.

Personally I prefer and use a dimpled (studded) HDPE membrane with 20mm dimples (studs) and slots for the water to pass freely. On top of this I place spubonded geotextile of min weight 200gr/m2.

It is of utmost importance to select a geotextile filter with no clogging properties!

Take care: geotextile should terminate a little above soil.

Dont ever forget to let 1 or 2 drain outlets!

We should see planters as small roof gardens. They give us an opportunity to bring nature &' or the least its illusion &' in the city environment. Victims as we are of a galloping urbanization, we should resist in every possible way!

Coffee Tables

เขียนโดย admin | 20:15

This article provides useful, detailed information about Coffee Tables.

No modern home is without a coffee table. Over the years it has become not only a decorative accent, but also a functional piece of furniture. If you still don\'t have one for your space, it\'s definitely time to go shopping. But with the many designs to choose from, how do you know what to buy for your home? Read on for some tips.

Your coffee table should blend seamlessly with your other home furnishings, as a general rule. So if y
ur home is modern, look for ultra-chic coffee tables made of glass and iron. Such contemporary pieces are sharp and defined, and they make a limited space seem bigger (a big reason that they are often used in apartments). If your home is more traditional, then choose a table that is made of rich wood treated with either a light or deep stain, depending on the color of your existing pieces. Classic wooden coffee tables never go out of style.

If you have limited space and could use more storage, then choose a coffee table that opens up to double as a small cabinet. Such tables are not only stylish, but also come in handy when you need to quickly clean up a mess.

Height is a very important consideration when buying coffee tables. You should decide how tall you want your table based on the height of your sofa or chairs. Most standard coffee tables are about sixteen inches tall, but there are also coffee tables available in heights as low as eleven inches. Shorter coffee tables are made specifically for contemporary sofa chairs that are designed to sit lower.

You may have noticed that while all carpets look great just after they're installed, after a few years of wear and tear, that will begin to change.

Whether it's from stains, tears, or just general wear and tear on a carpet, you will start to notice signs of aging as your carpet gets older.  However, this does not have to be the case!  With proper carpet care and maintenance, you'll be able to keep your carpet looking newer for longer, and you'll even be able to prolong the lifetime of your carpet.>

The most important things that you need to remember regarding carpet care are also the easiest things to do.  First of all, you should clean up any spills as soon as they happen.  This will reduce the chances of stains, and will also keep the spills from soaking too far into the carpet.  You should also make sure that you vacuum regularly -  at least once a week if you can manage it.  That way, you'll be able to keep the dirt that gets tracked onto your carpet from getting ground too far into it.  You will also reduce the mess that occurs when there are spills.

You should make sure that you get your carpet fully cleaned once every one to three years depending on how much wear and tear it sees during those years.  For children's rooms and other areas of the house that see a lot of wear, you may want to consider cleaning the carpet at least once a year.  For other rooms of the house, you may only need to do a full cleaning once every few years.  You can get the carpet cleaned professionally, or you can just rent a steam cleaner!  It depends on how deep of a cleaning your carpet needs, and how much work you want to do personally.

Even though a lot of carpet maintenance might seem like a lot of extra work, you'll definitely find that it is worth it when you get several more years out of the carpets in your home.  Additionally, proper carpet care will keep your home looking beautiful as long as you live there.

Growing a climbing rose involves some work and expense. When trained according to the espalier technique, the results can be spectacular.

Growing a climbing rose bush can be one of the most satisfying features in a garden. Usually, the rose's long stems are trained to grow vertically up a pole where they cover the ceiling of some structure such as a trellis or pergola. You may have noticed that the flowers appear only at the plant's tips, while the shrub as a whole is green with foliage, but bare of flowers. There i
a way however of inducing the mass of the plant to be smothered in blooms, thereby creating a far more spectacular effect.

The trick is to train the branches to grow horizontally, spacing them some 20-30cm from each other to create a kind of a fan shape. When stems grow horizontally or parallel to the ground, the dominance that the leading bud exerts on those below is neutralized, while the buds situated along the branches are activated and start to sprout short stems, upon which develop leaves and then flowers. This procedure is known as the espalier method, and is an excellent way of covering a wall, fence, or even a garden shed.

Climbing roses, while not necessarily being suitable for every situation, should definitely be considered in many circumstances. The large Bordeaux red flowers of the variety "don Juan" for instance, can look breathtaking against a white stone wall, as can the dark crimson of "Chrysler Imperial," (climbing type) while a gentler effect is achieved by bushes that sport pink, or pale yellow blooms, such as the climbing varieties of "Peace", "Queen Elizabeth", or "Gloire de Dijon".

The drawback of choosing a climbing rose as the solution to a particular design issue is of course the work involved in caring for it. Clearly it is much easier and cheaper to plant some self-clinging vine such as Ivy to do its worst, and of its own accord, ramble wild and smother what ever needs to be covered. The trouble with the latter option is that however tempting it may seem in terms of saving labor and maintenance, expensive damage is liable to be caused to the wall of a building in the long run. A far better alternative, let alone an infinitely more beautiful one, is to take the trouble and grow a climbing rose.

To achieve the best results it is advisable to build some support structure, which not only allows for the branches to be trained and tied onto it, but is also strong enough to take the weight of the rose bush when it reaches maturity after a few years. On a stone wall for example, metal pegs can be drilled at suitable intervals, so that wires can be stretched at the afore-mentioned distance of 20-30 cm. This admittedly involves some initial expense both in materials and labor, but the investment should be extremely worthwhile.

Growing a climbing rose as an espalier, not only requires tying and training, but pruning as well. In the winter, the short stems known as spurs, which sprout from the main branches can be pruned back to the first two or three buds, (but not less than two) while branches that cannot be easily trained can be removed. Spent flowers can always be dead-headed through the year, as needs be. It should be remembered that many climbing varieties are in fact "mutants" of regular rose shrubs, and that pruning the main stems can cause them to revert to their non-climbing habit. It follows therefore that the main branches should not be shortened, although old stems can be removed entirely to make way for juvenile growth

Having the right pieces of furniture in your kitchen can make cooking and baking much easier. This can also lead to reduced stress since you should know where your cooking accessories are located. In order to have a well-stocked kitchen with everything that you need, you want to consider furnishing your kitchen with these important and functional pieces of furniture. If you have the right furnishings in your kitchen, you may find that your baking goes much more smoothly, and you are able to enjoy it even more. Without these five types of kit
hen furniture, you might find that your baking days are full of chaos and are not as fun as you would expect.

Countertop to Cook On

In order to bake successfully, you need to have a flat surface where you can begin mixing your ingredients. Baking often requires you to have several mixing bowls filled with key ingredients at the same time. This allows you to begin the mixing process with everything you need conveniently in the same general vicinity. You may also need a flat surface for rolling the dough. This countertop is also important because it provides a flat surface to cut certain ingredients, reposition them into pans, and do all of the other things that you need to do. Your table or counter should be at your height, and should not be used for anything other than cooking. The countertop should be made up of material like finished wood, which you can clean easily, which looks nice in your home. It should be sturdy, and a great addition to your kitchen.

Baker's Rack to Cool On

After you are finished cooking your meal, it may not be ready to eat right away. This is especially true with desserts such as cookies, cakes, and breads. This is the main reason why a bakers rack is such an important addition to your kitchen. A backer's rack is a piece of furniture with wire racks where you can set pies, cakes, and plates of cookies while they cool. Today, many people have their baker's racks full of other products. This is mainly because they do make attractive shelving units. However, if you bake regularly, you can get the most out of your kitchen by investing in a bakers rack that is used to cool off foods that have finished baking. It is important to have the right type of baker's rack. You need to buy one that has metal or wood shelves, but you should also know that metal shelves are going to help your baked goods cool much more quickly, and therefore these are going to be much more useful for your kitchen.

Shelves for Storage

The third most important piece of furniture for you to use while baking in your kitchen is a set of shelves for storage. As you are baking, you are going to find that you are using many different types of pans, measuring tools, and other instruments to help bake efficiently and correctly. Therefore, all of these things need to be stored neatly and in a way that is going to make a lot of sense for you. Therefore, you are going to need a good set of storage shelves that can help you keep things organized. If you do not have an organized kitchen, the time spent in the kitchen may be stressful. This stress is easy to reduce and storage shelves are perfect for putting away your important baking accessories

Spice Rack for Spices

When you are baking, you are going to need a potentially wide variety of spices and other ingredients. If these are stored correctly and in an organized fashion, it can make your baking sessions a bit disorganized, and that is not the best way to go about it. Good baking requires good organization and the freshest ingredients; therefore, you want to be sure that you have a great spice rack that you can use to organize the spices you use for your baking projects.

Kitchen Table to Eat Around

Lastly, if you are going to be doing a lot of baking, it means that you should have many baked goods to eat. Having a wonderful kitchen table to eat food around is the most important part of your baking! You may want to share the food with your family and friends, so a good, solid kitchen or dining room table is something that you absolutely need when you are baking.

There are many benefits to baking but you need the proper furniture in order to have a stress free time in the kitchen. The most essential types of kitchen furniture for baking are countertops, baking racks, spice racks, shelves, and a kitchen table. These provide you with the storage and workspace that you need to bake your desserts.

Are your making mountains out of your molehills? Although lawn moles are underground creatures, the benefits they add to your garden are clearly visible and far outweigh the disadvantages.

Of the six species of mole found in North America, the Eastern mole (or gray mole) is the most common. Moles are about the size of chipmunks and weigh from three to six ounces. A tiny creature, its total length is just six to eight inches.

Many gardeners and groundskeepers are under the mistaken impression that lawn moles ea
the roots of their plants and turf grasses. However, moles are insectivores. Their primary diet is earthworms and grubs and a single mole can eat more than 140 grubs and cutworms daily. They also feast on destructive garden pests like snails, beetles, and millipedes. In fact, at just over a quarter-pound, a mole can consume 45 to 50 pounds of worms and insects each year.

The greatest harm that mole tunneling does to turf grass is by separating soil from roots. Still, the mole's digging actually improves soil quality by turning and aerating the soil and mixing accumulated nutrients throughout the excavation.

Moles don't continually dig each time they forage for food. Once a tunnel system is established, it is infrequently extended. In fact, the only signs of mole activity you might see are those when the mole must repair its construction. When disturbed, moles may temporarily vacate the area, but generally return within a week or two. In addition, when a tunnel is abandoned, a new mole inhabitant will "recolonize" using the handiwork of its predecessor.

For these reasons, even the most effective method of mole removal, trapping, is not a permanent solution to a "mole problem". Besides which, the three types of mole traps that work with any success sound like relics from the Spanish inquisition— harpoons, scissor-jaws, and choker loops. In fact, numerous remedies have been used to try to control moles Pickle juice, red pepper, razor blades, bleach, moth balls, brambles, human hair braids and hair balls, vibrators, ultra sonic devices, and poisons offer inconsistent and generally ineffective results; many including environmentally unfriendly side effects.

As in all elements of lawn care, the best solution to a lawn mole problem is applying practical gardening principles. Mole tunnels (except for the hilled entrances) are typically deep enough to be almost invisible. Over-watering your yard brings earthworms and other invertebrates close to the surface, making it necessary for the moles to "move up" in search of them. Reducing the amount or frequency of watering may help both moles and their prey stay underground where they are most beneficial to your lawn.

Another solution to a lawn mole problem is to reduce the size of your lawn, converting it to gardens, paths, and hedgerows. First, moles prefer straight tunnel runs. However, more importantly, converting some lawn to gardens, paths, hedgerows and patio areas adds eye-appeal, reduces signs of damage, and in addition attract birds and butterflies to your property.

Trees Of Life

เขียนโดย admin | 19:13

Trees can give life. It can produce the air that people need in order to breath and reduces the carbon dioxide which can pollute and bring harm to one's respiratory system. But aside from playing this role in our environment, trees can also offer more. It can give food, it can provide shelter, it can be created into medicine, and so much more. Every country or region has their so-called "tree of life". Find out what these plants are and why are they considered as one of the most important trees that exists today.

I
Asia, particularly in the country called Philippines, there is a certain tropical tree called the Coconut. The coconut tree was considered as the country's Tree of Life because of the unlimited benefits that you can get from the tree starting from its leaves up to its roots. The roots and the trunk of the coconut tree can be used in creating durable materials from wood. More often than not, the trunk of this tree is turned into furniture and materials needed for constructing a home. On the other hand, the roots of the coconut tree can provide extracts that can be used in creating beverages and medicines at the same time. Meanwhile, the leaves of the coconut tree can be turned into baskets, hats, trays, and other novelty items. But it is widely used in the country as brooms since vacuums are not really popular in Philippines. Of course, who could forget about the fruit about this tree of life? There is a wide array of products that you can get in this one fruit alone. The coconut meat can be made as chips, flour, milk, and even candy. From the same fruit, you can also create coconut oil that can be used for cooking and even for automobiles as well.

India also has its own plant that they consider as the Tree of Life such as the peepal and the banyan tree. Also known as the Bo-Tree or the Sacred Fig, the peepal is famous among the Hindus as well as Buddhist. But unlike the coconut tree, the peepal does not give as much products compared to the other tree. In this case, the Sacred Fig is just symbolically called as the tree of life. This is where many Buddhists and Hindus do their meditation. Many believe that this must be called as the tree of spirituality rather than the tree of life.

From the same country, there is another plant that they call as their tree of life called the banyan tree. Unlike the peepal tree, the banyan tree is widely used in the country for making herbal medicines. Aside from that, it is also considered by the locals of India as a sacred tree and most of them call the banyan tree as the Ashwath Vriksha which means The Light Within. Most of the trees of life here in India are their sacred trees where they get faith instead of usable items. It might not nourish their bodies or give them a source of income but it does feed their souls with faith, which is essential part of their religion.
